Mediated Learning Experience (MLE) is a way of teaching that goes beyond simply presenting information. A mediator—an intentional, caring teacher—comes between the learner and the world, selecting, framing, and interpreting experiences in ways that help the learner grow.
Professor Feuerstein identified that the most important factor in cognitive development isn't just exposure to stimuli—it's having a mediator who helps you make sense of those experiences.
In our sessions, I serve as that mediator—helping learners not just solve problems, but understand their own thinking, develop better strategies, and build confidence in their ability to learn.
Key Elements of MLE

Intentionality & Reciprocity
The mediator has a clear purpose, and the learner actively engages in the process.
-
Meaning

-
Transcendence
Learning goes beyond the immediate task to principles that apply broadly.
-
Competence
Building the learner's sense of capability and self-efficacy.
-
Regulation of Behavior
Developing self-control, planning, and reflective thinking.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is mediated learning different from regular tutoring?
Traditional tutoring focuses on content—helping with specific subjects or homework. Mediated learning focuses on the process of learning itself. We help learners understand how they think, identify obstacles, and develop strategies that transfer to all learning situations.
What does a mediated learning session look like?
Sessions are one-on-one and highly interactive. We might work on puzzles, problem-solving activities, academic content, or real-life challenges—but the focus is always on the thinking process, not just getting answers.
Who benefits from mediated learning?
Anyone who wants to become a more effective learner. This includes students struggling in school, gifted learners who are bored or frustrated, adults facing cognitive challenges, and anyone who wants to improve their thinking skills.
How long until we see results?
Many learners and families notice changes in confidence, attitude, and approach within the first few weeks. Deeper cognitive changes typically become evident over several months of consistent work.
